The creator of the Family Court Journal also researches the corruption in her area. She met with a man in February 2014 who responded to her post about a county commissioner who was arrested for embezzlement. We will call this gentleman Sean and his wife Renee.
Renee works within the county department that deals with the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) for county employees. Renee would go into the courthouse after hours with the approval of her boss. She would obtain employee files and take them home. Renee would work on her and her spouses personal computer and email. She would change dates and information of the records. Papers that would need to be filled out and sent into the office by a certain date would come up missing. Things would be changed so the claim of the case would be denied and the employee benefits canceled. In essence, county employees lost benefits from corrupt coworkers, saves the county thousands of dollars.If a government employee would do such a thing, any business could potentially do the same thing. Having a record of information sent to your employer, and a journal of phone calls made, is a good idea. Also make sure letters sent are signed for by the recipient. It does cost a little extra to have the post office confirm acceptance of a letter, but if you have to build a case of wrong doing, you will want proof you sent the information. Documentation is the key when fighting a denial claim. The first lesson you always learn when in a legal battle is, "If it is not in writing, it never happen."
The reason the Family Court Journal has a section for the time an incident occurred, is because time is a fact and always a key part when in court. Knowing when something happen, helps to keep everyone one on the same "page." The who, what, when, where, and why are always needed in court. Imagine how easy it would be to do a timeline if you had the Family Court Journal, and all the facts of the case leading up to a specific incident.Sean eventually asked his wife to leave their home. Renee threw out a bunch of things to the curb when she left. She threw out so much stuff, the garbage man could not take all the junk so he left it on the curb. What he left behind is all the FMLA employee files that Renee threw out to the curb. The saying, "One man's junk, is another man's treasure," fits this case. Guess everyone now knows how files come up missing at the court house.
